Italian Wines in Singapore
Italian wines are defined by a sense of proportion - a true balance of fruit, tannin and acid - which makes them easier to drink in Singapore's climate than many 'heavier' styles. It also means they don't overwhelm food, making them perfect for enjoying Singapore's exciting food culture!

Italian wine has come a long way since the days of the straw-covered flasks of the 60's. Italy's winemaking techniques and viticulture have become increasingly sophisticated. Winemakers are now producing wines of great elegance that reflect their environment and variety.
6 things you should know about Italian wines:

Italian wines tend to be high in acidity
A wine with strong acidity (and tannin) tends to pair better with food. Italy and Singapore are both a food-oriented cultures and therefore require wines that compliment food.

Earthy aromas
Each wine from each region in Italy has a distinct nose, often reflecting the land from which it has been produced. Notes of forest floor, violets, spices and lavender are common characteristics of wine from Chianti and Piemonte.
Medium Body
There are some beautiful full-bodied wines in Italy, such as the prestigious Barolos from Piemonte. But Italy is best known for its wines of medium weight and elegant balance which complement, rather than dominate, food.

Italian grape varieties
Italy has a wide range of indigenous grape varieties. Each variety has adapted over thousands of years to its unique environment, leading to unique regional wine styles. At Jovis Wines, we love Sangiovese, Dolcetto, Nebbiolo and Barbera varieties.
A restrained use of oak
In the traditional styles, Italian winemakers generally avoid using too much oak. This means the varietal and regional expression of each wine is not masked by heavy oak flavours.

Ambiente
The experience of drinking Italian wine isn't complete without an appreciation of ambiente - of how the wine, the food, the people and the place all connect with each other. In our publication, 'Ambiente' we help customers build these connections by sharing our knowledge of the wines and the land from which they come.
